English Language Teacher at Nanjing Aston
About Nanjing:
Nanjing 南(nan)meaning south, 京(jing)meaning capital, or the “Southern Capital” has had many names over its several thousand year history. Today, however, it is known for its top tier universities and for its wealth of both modern and ancient attractions. Nanjing is one of the few cities in China to modernize without losing its traditional culture and beautiful history.
The city is often referred to as Shanghai’s little brother, with all the same amenities as the larger tier 1 cities but with the comfort of a slightly smaller city, but by no means small. It’s both relaxed and accommodating at the same time with endless options of food, nightlife, and adventures. If you feel in the mood for Italian, there are a few great places on Shanghai Road. If you want a relaxing evening listening to live jazz head to The Kitchen & Bar on a Sunday evening.
For thousands of years Nanjing has been a center of information and education for the East. Confucius is said to have spent many years here studying and sharing information with other scholars. Today, Nanjing still has this reputation and is home to several world renowned universities enabling the city to carry out this historic tradition. Ideas and culture from all over the world are brought to Nanjing to share and experience, making this one of the only cities of its type in China. It’s not uncommon to make friends with Europeans, Americans, Africans and even other Asian countries’ whilst out socializing.
Aston Educational Group began a venture to open a different style of school in the city of Nanjing. The management and teaching staff are all foreigners. We strive for a completely immersive environment for the students to learn English in, and believe the way to achieve this is through a western style of management and education. Managers of the school also have years of experience working with Aston schools all over China.
About Aston:
With over 20 years' experience bringing teachers to China, we at Aston understand that it is a big decision to move to a foreign country, which is why we support you every step of the way. From our friendly and knowledgeable foreign recruiters, to expert help throughout the visa process, then to being warmly welcomed at your arrival in the airport, you will never be left to fend for yourself.
Each year we hire a mix of experienced and inexperienced teachers. So if you are a recent graduate or do not have any teaching experience, do not worry. We can teach you what you need to know. All we ask for is that you have a willingness to learn and a genuine interest in teaching.
We want you to feel comfortable with making the move to China, so we are happy to put you in contact with some of our current teachers if you wish to hear of their experiences.
WHAT WE OFFER OUR TEACHERS
Low hours and various contract lengths:
One thing we don't want (and I'm sure you don't) is for our teachers to come to China, only to have to work 40 hours a week and not get to fully enjoy the experience of being in China. This is why we offer 23 hour a week contract, which includes 3 days off. Giving you plenty of time to explore the city you are in, study Mandarin or do some travelling. Of course, if you wish to work more hours we also have the option of a 28 hour contract. Don't want to commit to a full year? No problem, come and try 6 months first.
Free accommodation:
While rent in China is not terribly expensive compared to western standards, the initial costs involved can be a hit to your wallet. With rent paid generally every 3 months, you are looking at having to pay 6000-9000 RMB in set up costs. Add to that the hassle of having to stay in hotels and search for an apartment, it is an unnecessary stress.
We prefer that you have a place to call home as soon as you land in China. So for that reason all our schools offer free accommodation, fully furnished with everything you need. Zero set up costs.
Training and professional development:
We offer all new teachers our 28-hour TCERT training when they arrive in China. Our experienced teacher trainers will be able to fully prepare you to teach your first class through both practical and theoretical training. We have designed our own curriculum and books in house, so lesson planning is a breeze and takes minimal time.
Our goal is to provide you with a supportive environment and the guidance and training to allow you to continually develop your teaching skills.
